The collegiate body of the University of Tampere has chosen the external members for the next University Board. They are Rauno Ihalainen, Leena Lahti, Kaija Majoinen, Kari Neilimo and Riitta Varpe.
Rauno Ihalainen MD, PhD is the director of the Pirkanmaa Hospital district and among other positions of trust a member of the Board of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA) and Vice Chair of the governing body of the bank Tampereen Seudun Osuuspankki.
Leena Lahti PhD is Senior Gender and Diversity Advisor to the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxemburg.
Kaija Majoinen PhD is Head of R & D at the Association of Finnish local and Regional Authorities.
Kari Neilimo PhD was a professor of economic sciences at the University of Tampere and director of S-group, chair of the board of the Finnish public service broadcasting YLE and member of the University of Tampere Board 2005-2008.
Riitta Varpe Lic.Sc.(Tech.) is the Director of the Pirkanmaa Employment and Economic Development Centre.
The Board comprises 11 members, the other six of whom are from inside the University. The representatives for the Board of the professors, other University personnel and the students will be announced by the collegiate body on Monday 7 September.
The Board is the supreme decision making organ of the University of Tampere and begins it term of office in September. The Board will choose a new rector to serve for a period not exceeding five years, approve the new Regulations and finalize the 2010 budget.
