Student Union Council election is coming

What?

The highest decisive power of Student Union of University of Tampere (aka Tamy), is used by the Council of Representatives. This Council is so called Student Parliament. It has 40 members and 80 vice members chosen via election every two years.

The most important tasks of the Council are to select the Executive Board and to determine financial issues. The Council makes decisions about the membership fee and approves the yearly budget of Tamy. The Council also determines the student union rules, the guidelines for action and names the student representatives in different bodies, e.g. in the Board of University. Voting is a very concrete way to make student´s voice heard in the organization.

Election of the Student Union Council is held almost in every Student Unions in Finland every second autumn.

Who?

All Student Union members have the right to vote, if enrolled as present in the University of Tampere at least 21 days before actual election. This concerns all international students too. Hence, there are approximately 15 000 students in the University of Tampere who have the power to decide who is presenting them for the next two years.

12 groups and 214 candidates are taking part to this year´s election. The National Union of University Students in Finland offers an oline candidate matcher to ease the choice between the candidates. Online candidate matcher is on the website www.edustajistovaalit.fi

Where and when?

The actual election days are 3rd and 4th of November 2009. Online voting is also possible from 26 th to 30 th of October from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the website of Tamy www.tamy.fi

Candidates present themselves at the Election Market. The Market is held at Main Building´s ground floor lobby, near the Juvenes cafeteria on Tuesday 27th of October and at Linna building´s ground floor lobby on Wednesday 28th of October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can debate and discuss with the candidates in a discussion panel on Wednesday 28th of October. Panel is held in Linna building´s Väinö Linna hall starting at quarter to 2 p.m.

Actual election will be arranged in the following locations:

- University of Tampere, main lobby in the Main Building 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.
- Department of Teacher Education in Hämeenlinna 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.
- Linna building 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.
- Pinni B building (the new Pinni building) 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.
- Faculty of Medicine, building B (only on 3rd of Nov.) 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.

-Faculty of Medicine, building Arvo (only on 4th of Nov.) 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.
- Department of Pori (only on 3rd of Nov.) 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.

So where´s the party?

Tamy´s Student Parliament Election Party is held on Wednesday 4th of November in the Student Theater of Tampere at Itsenäisyydenkatu 14. Part starts at 7 p.m. and there´s free entry. Cheer for your candidate and party all night long!
