Mapsi is a mobile map service which can now be used on the University of Tampere main campus. The University Facilities Services joined the Mapsi Project in order to make things easier especially for those attending entrance examinations, for new students and for those with impaired mobility to move around the University. Main campus buildings included in the map service are the Main Building, the Pinni A and B Buildings and the Linna Building.
The maps made of the University facilities include common teaching rooms, restaurants and cafeterias, WC facilities, Info points, computer classrooms and libraries. These are marked with icons, some of which open onto further information about the facility in question. Effort has been invested in making things easier for those with impaired mobility by indicating lifts, automatic doors and Inva WC facilities. The service is available by mobile phone with an internet connection. Mapsi can be uploaded onto a mobile phone from the address: www.mapsi.fi
Those attending for entrance examinations and new students will be informed about the mobile Mapsi service through collaboration between the Facilities Services and the Department of International and Academic Affairs.
Further information available from the environmental coordinator, Ms. Saana Raatikainen (saana.raatikainen@uta.fi), tel. 040 190 14 59.
