After 50 years of operation in Tampere the University will hold an Open Day at the beginning of May especially for townsfolk and residents of neighbouring municipalities. Open Day is 5 May, with information on the campus area, the University community and research accomplished at the University.
The University of Tampere originated in Helsinki in 1925 with an institution generally known as the Civic College. In 1930 this institution was renamed the Civic College for Social Sciences. It was transferred to Tampere in 1960 and in 1966 was granted university status.
Events on Open Day from 12 midday to 20.00.
12.00 Rector Kaija Holli will declare the event open
12.30 - approx. 13.30 Walking tour of the campus: buildings, history, art and reminiscences from celebrated University folk
12.30 - approx. 13.15 Presentation round of University trees and flowers
12.30 - 19.30 Old films about the University
14.00 - approx. 14.45 Presentation round of University trees and flowers
14.00 - 20.00 Researchers Report: half-hour talks on various subjects, including medical science
17.00 - approx. 18.00 Walking tour of the campus: buildings, history, art and reminiscences from celebrated University folk.
Also music and photography exhibition. The cafeteria in the Main Building will be open until 19.00.
Open Day for those interested in studying at the University the following day, 6 May. 10.00 - 14.00 traditional Open Day.
