As of the beginning of 2011 the University of Tampere will conduct a thorough overhaul of its organization. The present faculties and departments will be rearranged into what is referred to as a schools model.
"By 2012 the University of Tampere will have reformed its degree program and researcher training in accordance with the Strategy. In order to achieve these objectives we shall renew the University's administrative structures," says Rector Kaija Holli.
Functions pertaining to the University's teaching and research will be organized into nine schools, to which the present departments and faculties will be transferred.
"The schools will be formed in such a way as to better support the strategic focal areas and development programmes and provide better opportunities to exploit the benefits of synergy when arranging teaching and research. The schools are likewise administratively appropriate," she continues.

The Language Centre, the Library and the Finnish Social Science Data Archive will function as separate units.
The names of the schools will be finalized when the regulations are drawn up.
Ongoing studies will continue according to the current curricula and teaching schedules. When students graduate, they will still gain the degree that they have first been given the right to study.
For example, students studying international relations will still become Bachelors or Masters of Social Sciences even after the turn of the year, despite the fact that the tasks of the Department of Political Science and International Relations will be transferred to the School of Management Sciences .
The new schools will start planning extensive degree programmes, which will commence in August 2012.
The preparations for the election of boards for the schools have begun. The election will probably be held in mid-November, using electronic voting.
The work of these boards will begin at the beginning of 2011.
