The University of Tampere will start the New Year with work, work, work. The new Schools will take shape, the University services will be put in order and new degree programmes and doctoral programmes will be prepared.
"Our past is good, our present is good, but we are also working for a good future," says Rector Kaija Holli.
In 2010 the University of Tampere was much appreciated for its persevering strategy work. The implementation of the Strategy began in February, as soon as the document itself had been drawn up. And in ten months the University organization underwent a complete overhaul. The new Schools will begin operations at the turn of the year, each under a full-time leader.
Three new multidisciplinary research programmes are well under way.
"The name of our Strategy is Let's shape the future! And we shall pursue it with energy and enthusiasm," the Rector encourages the entire University community.
"Much remains to be accomplished, but I believe that we shall achieve our objectives."
The broad-based Bachelor's degree programmes are scheduled for completion by the end of the year and the first new students will begin on these in August 2012. This spring the structure and content of the new Graduate Schools will be perfected. The internationalization programme and the communications programme are nearing completion and work on the personnel programme will begin at once in January, when the teaching and science councils will also be set up.
