The four representatives of the university staff will be elected in an election that will be conducted on 25-30 October as an electronic voting.
The term of office of the present University Board will end on 31 December 2012.
Two of the Board members representing the staff will be elected among the professors and two among all the other staff. The University Collegiate Body confirms the result of the election.
The term of office of the Board that is elected now is four years. The tasks of the University Board are laid down in Section 14 of the Universities Act (558/2009). The Board is the topmost decision-making body of a public university. The Board makes the decisions on, for example, the university strategy, the action and economy plan and the budget and it compiles the university’s year end financial statements.
The Board is also responsible for organising the university’s book-keeping and financial management and it approves the agreements made with the Ministry of Education and Culture on behalf of the University. The Board elects the Rector and decides the numbers of the students admitted to the university. The Board also appoints the staff that works directly under the Rector: the Deans of Schools and the Directors of Independent Institutes, the Director of Administration and the Vice-Rectors.
In addition to the staff representatives, there are five outside members in the Board of the University of Tampere. The University Collegiate Body elects these members later this autumn. In addition, the Student Union of the University will elect two student members.
The candidates in the election of the Board now published
In its meeting on 15 October 2012, the election committee approved the lists of candidates in the election of the Board. The final legal electoral roll has also been published. The final electoral roll lists the people who have the right to vote in the election. A person who has the right to vote can only vote in the group in whose final electoral roll she or he has been listed (group 1 or group 2).
The electoral roll and links to the combined lists of candidates in groups 1 and 2 can be found on the election website in the intranet.
As in the previous elections, the election advertising and other campaigning will likely happen respectfully and in good taste. Further guidelines on election advertising in the University premises are provided.
The best source of information on the election is the election website in the intranet.
