
Professor Kalervo Järvelin and Professor Pertti Vakkari from the School of Information Science at the University of Tampere have been awarded by ASIS&T.
The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) is one of the most prestigious organisations in the area of information science. The Association and its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) award the internationally most renowned researchers in their field and this year two Professors at the School of Information Science were among those awarded.
The 2012 ASIS&T award for research in information science was given to Kalervo Järvelin who is a well respected researcher in information retrieval and especially well-known for the development of IR evaluation methods.
Professor Pertti Vakkari was chosen as the 2012 ASIS&T SIG USE Award Winner for Outstanding Contribution to Information Behavior Research for his work on task-based information searching and information seeking strategies. He has made significant contributions to the field of information behaviour research by bridging the interactive information retrieval and information behaviour fields.
Professor Reijo Savolainen was the recipient of ASIS&T awards in 2008-2009.
