Mihail Zheleznikov freelances as a film editor.
Russian film-maker Mihail Zheleznikov says that getting into international festivals is not difficult as long as the film is gripping and fascinating.
Zheleznikov participates in the International Contest 2007 in Tampere with his autobiographical documentary Kollekcia No. 1, which tells of his Soviet childhood.
According to Zheleznikov, Russian short films are moving toward international and away from Soviet traditions. More fresh, interesting directors arise.
– Making quality short films would require confidence in obtaining funding. The ambitious short film makers in Russia are plagued by the same problems as all in the culture sector, says Zheleznikov.
– The state does not support artists. Neither grants nor scholarships exist. It is possible to seek funding only for individual projects.
Sponsorship is seldom available for documentary films or short films in the margin.
– The sponsors know that supporting short films is kissing goodbye to the money.
Most of short film makers have two jobs. Zheleznikov himself fleelances as a film editor.
