Pictures From the Other Side of the Screen

In the 1950's there were people who travelled around country villages showing mostly Finnish movies. For religious reasons it was hard to even get a venue in our village.

My mother was a devout Pietist and disapproved of movies, among other things. Back then I didn't have too much money to spare either.

They showed the films at the building of the workers' association, and naturally I had no business going there. But I was a ten year old girl, so all kinds of happenings interested me. I soon noticed that on hot days they opened the back door for the duration of the film. I sneaked to the stage behind the screen, where I could watch many a film. I thought the view back there just as good as on the front of the screen.
