The Restored 2001 Didn't Make It to the Festival
Despite good efforts, Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey didn't make it to the Tampere Short Film Festival. The sci-fi fantasy, based on Arthur C. Clarke's novel, is fitting to held the title of the cult movie of the millennium. Even after thirty years it is still equally captivating as before. The restored version of the film was premiered in London in January. The director Kubrick took part in the restoration as well. Recently, the film was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival. In addition to the United Kingdom and Germany, Warner Bros has granted the film's screening rights only to the United States.
Sandrew Metronome Distribution imports Warner Bros films to Finland. Anita Storgård says that Finland has not got screening rights and this is nothing special. She can't tell more of the film either. It is the normal procedure that information is given only after the distribution rights have been cleared.
