Five hours' Masterpiece of Realism
Classic and a New Document at Special Festival Screenings
According to many film researchers and critics, Eight Deadly Shots
reaches its full artistic and aesthetic effect in the film's
original version. Film researcher Sakari Toiviainen, who has studied
Mikko Niskanen's life and works, shares the opinion.

Mikko Niskanen's performance as Pasi
in Eight Deadly Shots is critically acclaimed.

"The longer version gives a fuller impression of the film. The
viewer gets an overview of the events and their background that
cumulatively lead to the killings".
Fantastic Realism
To Toiviainen, Eight Deadly Shots is a masterpiece of realistic
narration. "The film is a highlight of Finnish everyday realism in
film. This was as far as realism could go, so in other words, the
film was the aesthetic culmination point of realism in film art."
Mikko Niskanen's role as Pasi in Eight Deadly Shots was also the
culmination of Niskanen's actor's career. "This is unanimously
acknowledged. He made good performances later on, too, but in this
film, his vision, a sphere of life he knew and the character came
together. Niskanen could identify himself with the character and was
able to reach to the very core of his role".
Eight Deadly Shots is shown at the festival at a special screening.
The five hour and sixteen minute original version was originally
made for television, and it was shown in four parts. On the festival
screening, there will be a short intermission giving the audience
the chance to have a quick cup of coffee and stretch their legs.
