Ferry-Go-Round Winner of the Jameson Award
Finnish director Aleksi Salmenperä received the first ever Jameson Short Film Award of the Tampere Film Festival for his film Ferry-Go-Round.
"I wanted to raise a question with this film; is there a right way to live with someone, is living with someone just a learned model, can one be happy alone", says the young filmmaker.
"We tried to make the film look as if it had been born without any effort. We finished it just in time for the Tampere festival."
Aleksi Salmenperä is studying directing at the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki. Ferry-Go-Round is a student project. Two years ago in Tampere he received an award for the newcomer of the year.

The director also co-wrote the script for Ferry-Go-Round together with Pekka Pesonen. Salmenperä says there is a lack of good scriptwriters. The cameraman was Tuomo Hutri. Music was by Ville Tanttu, Markus Nordenstreng and Jo Hope. The actors were Minna Haapkylä, Ville Virtanen, Tommi Eronen and Johanna Schulten.
Ferry-Go-Round was picked for the prize from the Finnish competition. The jury said the film is a good and creative example of European Film and has a good chance of achieving a wider European audience. The prize is 6,000 Euros, which is the second largest prize for short film in Finland.
Jameson Short Film Awards are given annually at eight film festivals, which are members of the European Coordination of Film Festivals. The next prize will be given in Dresden in Germany in April.
