Films from the European Union
A Series of European Films at the Festival
Five full-length feature films from the 15x15 series will be screened at the Tampere Film Festival. This series aims to highlight and promote European film. The films to be screened are: Jean Devaivre's La dame d'onze heures (France), Peter Lorre's Der Verlorene (Germany), Michael Powell's and Emeric Pressburger's A Matter of Life and Death (United Kingdom), Vittorio Cottafavi's Le Legioni di Cleopatra (Italy) and Mikko Niskanen's Kahdeksan surmanluotia (Finland).
The European Coordination of Film Festivals set up this project. Fifteen directors from different EU countries have been asked to choose a film that is important, yet little known or appreciated elsewhere. Aki Kaurismäki has selected the Finnish film in the series.
This 15x15 film package began to tour the most prominent European Film Festivals last year. After Tampere, the films will be screened in seven other cities in Finland. The European Union and a group of private enterprises support this project.
