Ian Toews - Praised Director Excited to Be in the Panel
Last year the Canadian Ian Toews won the international competition with his film Four Corners. This year he will evaluate films as a member of the international panel of judges.
Toews counts the Tampere International Film Festival among the most important yearly events in this field and thinks winning last year was an important merit for his career. The success in last year's competition helped in marketing the film, which has been shown in Europe by the Dutch as well as the Finnish Television.

Ian Toews comes from Canada.

Toews tells that he likes visiting film schools and give lectures on film making, genres and the methods he uses. He is also interested in the educational system of Finland, since he has already been teaching in Canada.
During the past year Toews has mostly filmed in Japan; he is working on a documentary of the local culture and history. He says that the Japanese, Canadians and Finns have much in common. This is his third visit to Finland and as it turns out he is a fan of the country. He even studied Finnish while he was in Japan to better communicate with the Finns. However he politely remembers to praise the Finns' good level of English.
Toews has concentrated on working for a long while now, so the next thing he will do is take a brake and travel to Poland and the Czech republic. He is drawn to the latter and especially Prague because of the antique shops specialising in cameras, where he says real treasures can be found.
Producers and film schools take notice: a skilful international film director and teacher is free for the time being.
