Behind the Scenes: Emma Ryan, Guest Assistant – More screenings, more venues, more staff and much more snow, summarises Emma Ryan some of the differences between the Tampere Film Festival and the Sheffield International Documentary Festival (SIDF). In the framework of a Staff Exchange Programme, the festival assistant of the SIDF is working at the Tampere Film Festival for seven weeks. Like in Sheffield, Emma Ryan is involved in marketing and the guest co-ordination: – I have worked with the administrative side before the festival, the former film and literature student says. – During the festival I will look after the International guests. Besides assisting the staff of the Tampere Film Festival with organising screening prints and proof-reading, she also tries to discover the city of Tampere. – My colleagues take care that I keep the balance between work and enjoying my stay in Tampere, she says with a smile. Where will we find you most of the time during the film festival? – I'm going to be in the Plevna Bar quite a lot. The International film makers meet there for two hours every day and I will be the host. What are you personally looking forward to? – I am looking forward to meeting the directors of Pyongyang Robogirl. I have met them before and they are nice guys. I still have to study the catalogue to check what films to see. Is there any film or screening you would recommend? – I want to see the Riddim Night as it is completely different from the other events. What is there to see in Tampere? – The Moomin Museum, definitely! And Näsinneula, the observation tower, is great. How will life go on after the film festival? – The first thing I have to do is to get on the plane on Tuesday and go home again. And I think that some of the guys working here will take me out on Monday night. – Riddim Night & Kapteeni Ä:ni on the 8th of March at 23.00 in Pakkahuone
