Shooting Stars' Winning Videos from Nokia and Tampere The awards in the fourth Shooting Stars festival's (Tähdenlentoja in Finnish) minute category went to Arto Vainio and Jouni Ryttyläinen from the town of Nokia, and to Tesoma activity center's group from Tampere. The two first ones won the one-minute video category and the Tesoma group won the three-minute category. Twelve films from different parts of Finland competed in these two categories The jury of the competition included both professionals of film industry and people with a mental handicap. The representatives of the professionals were cinematographer Anssi Mellblom, who acted as the chairman of the jury, and animator Krista Partti. Journalist Jaana Teräväinen and office workers Silja Tuomarla and Timo Seppälä from Kehitysvammaisten tukiliitto (The Finnish Association of Societies for Persons with Mental Handicap) were also part of the jury. According to the chairman Mellblom there were works of all levels taking part in the competition. The winning videos were original and stood out. The Mobile Phone from Nokia Won The one-minute category was won by Arto “Aatsi” Vainio and Jouni “Jontse” Ryttyläinen from the town of Nokia. Their film was an animation called Kännykkä kulkee ylpeänä (Mobile Phone Goes Proudly). According to the evaluation of the jury the topic of the film is a short phenomenon of its time, and the image and the sound world are well done. The same film makers also took the second prize of the category. The jury described the film Mietteitä ja aatteita (Thoughts and Reflections) as an offbeat, diverse, overflowing, endless story. Aatse Vainio and Jontse Ryttyläinen from Nokia explain that they have worked together for five years. According to Vainio the idea for this year's winning film was born on the spur of the moment. New ideas came up all the time during the shooting. The camera was used by Ryttyläinen. People from Tesoma Look Back to the Summer Only the first prize was awarded in the three-minute category. It went to the film Kesän muisto (The Memory of Summer) made by Tesoma activity center's group. The film was shot by Aleksi Nuotio. According to the jury the film was peaceful, beautiful, unhurried. The film had a relaxing, summery atmosphere. It seemed effortless, a film that everyone can be part of.
The jury gave an honourable mention to the film Rakas Kirkko (Dear Church) shot by Tuuli Korhonen. The film deserved it because of its strong atmosphere and harmonious whole. New Winds The Shooting Stars' special prize was given the first time this year. It was awarded to Aatsi Vainio's film Jääkaappi / Laihat eväät (Refrigerator / Scarce Food). In the jury's opinion the way the film deals with and presents the topics showed the film maker's courage and perceptiveness of the surrounding world. This year a new group of young film makers took part in the competition. The students from the special unit of Rovaniemi town elementary school had sent four films to the competition. In their works these mentally handicapped children from 13 to 16 years of age realize their dreams and stories.
