A Fair Share of Digital Films at Resfest Resfest, a festival for digital movies, introduces itself at Tampere Film Festival for the second time. Following the continuing trend, digital movies have progressed by leaps and bounds during the past year. At Resfest more than forty films, divided into four separate entities, are shown. Altered States –show deals with universal matters: getting to heaven and the hereafter between heaven and earth. Among others, this entity includes It's a Shame about Ray, the longest film in this year's programme – almost 40 minutes. High Risk introduces a subject about which all of us are interested: bizarre neighbours. Spiced with black humour, this show also has room for extraordinary animals. By Design is a breath of the 3D-world. Here, many impressive studies of three-dimensional spaces by animators and designers are being displayed. The fourth show, Cinema Electronica, includes futuristic animations and new types of music-videos. This entity also deals with the fear of new technology. Technology within Easy Reach Resfest has grown rapidly during its six-year existence. The happening was established when the present festival manager, Jonathan Wells, wanted to create a new kind of film festival. The idea of Resfest is to see how technology influences the making of movies. Many of the movies screened at the festival are made by using technology which is within the reach of almost everyone. The prices of digital video cameras, computers, and software have gone down, and at the same time more and more people have become interested in animating. Although independent animation films are produced with fairly small budgets, they can already compete with films made by the large Hollywood studios.
