Roth answered to all questions
openly and charmed his audience
at the director meeting |
The house was full, as I Was a Jewish Sex Worker was shown at Pakkahuone on Friday evening. The director himself was surprised to see so many people at the screening.
After the show, Roth visited a gay party at the Student Union house.
- People often think that prostitutes had no other choice; they do it because they are unhappy of different from others, said Roth at the director meeting.
For him, working as a sex masseur was not the only thing he could for a living; he did it by choice. He told about his work in a gay organization called PONY (Prostitutes of New York) that among other things works for decriminalization of prostitution. Roth was also interested in the status of gay people and prostitution in Finland.

Movie and identity
Roth quit his job in the sex industry about five years ago.
- Sex was the center of my life for years. It was wearing me out and I needed a break from all that. It was difficult to combine work and dating, and I wanted my life to be more consistent.
Then he moved on in his search for identity.
- I could have invested 25,000 dollars in therapy, but I decided to make a movie instead. Filmmaking proved to be more effective than the New Age therapy and other programs I have tried.
In the future, Roth is planning to do an imaginary comedy and historic drama.
- Although I've moved on to new subjects, filmmaking is still therapeutical for me.
