To the Film Festival by Email |
||
| Lucian Oprea, a 22-year-old student and journalist from Cluj-Napoca, Rumanian Transylvania, came to Finland for the Film Festival. This is his first trip abroad and according to Lucian it's like dreaming with eyes open. He had dreamt about Scandinavia already as a young boy. |

The Festival brochure inspired him to make the long trip to Finland: first he had to travel twenty hours to Budapest to catch a plane to Finland. Oprea, who is responsible for the lay-out and editing of a film column twice a week in Stirea magazine, is going to spend the festival viewing as many films as possible. Well before this year's festival, Lucian Oprea read the former Festival News Internet pages, and a series of funny incidents started to occur. Last year there was a joke competition included in the festival News pages. Lucien decided to get rid of a collection of jokes in his mail box, and he emailed all the jokes to Tampere City software designer Erkki Lehtimäki, who had also been responsible for the joke competition. Lehtimäki himself had forgotten all about the joke pages by then, as the pages didn't gain much attention at all.
He had even removed his email address from the Finnish pages six months ago - however, the address still existed on the English version of the pages. Lucien's forwarding the jokes to Erkki started the men's email correspondence, and resulted in Erkki's offering bed, breakfast - and sauna - to the young journalist. © pomot 1998 |
