Administration

Global Health and Development (GHD) is an academic discipline and a collaborative programme within the Health Sciences branch at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Tampere. The Health Sciences branch includes also Public Health and its various sub-fields such as epidemiology, health economics, health policy and systems, health sociology, health promotion and many more, as well as Nursing Sciences.

As GHD is considered multi- and transdisciplinary and to serve the whole university, we have a Steering Committee consisting of experts from different faculties in UTA. The Steering Committee, chaired by the Vice Rector, oversees GHD activities and makes tentative decisions on its strategy, action plans and budget.

The University Rector endorses issues requiring a formal decision-making authority beyond that of the Steering Committee or the Dean of Social Sciences. To facilitate a university-wide inclusion and ownership, Global Health and Development forms its own budgeting unit (cost centre).
