Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences 2015-2017

The Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences has been operating at the University of Tampere since 2003. It is currently called Master's Degree Programme in Public and Global Health. The first intake of students in the renewed programme was in 2017 and the next group of students in the programme will start their studies in autumn 2019.

The structure of the programme that ended in spring 2017 is described below, those of the previous years can be found in the links on the left.

2015-2017 MHS Programme structure

The international Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences (MHS) takes an interdisciplinary approach to health issues from a public health and global perspective and utilises various approaches to learning. It comprises 120 ECTS and its duration is two academic years. The programme structure consists of compulsory and elective studies in public health or international health, compulsory and optional research studies, general studies and optional (free choice) studies. In addition, the students write a Master's thesis and participate in the thesis seminar. There is also the possibility to include a work practicum of 6 weeks or three months in the studies.

There are two options to specialize in: Public Health and International Health. Students choose their preferred area of specialization during the first year of studies.

Public Health aims to equip graduates to work specifically in national health care at population level research, development and expert functions. International Health puts emphasis on work in multicultural organisations and focuses on the health effects of globalisation and the challenges to health care.
