Cell and Molecular Biology Club

night_shift.jpgBioMediTech presents:

Cell and Molecular Biology Club

BMT Club is an after-office-hours meeting point to offer a place for people to get together, to discuss, and to develop new ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. Some food and drinks will be served (first-come-first-served), and an informal scientific presentation is presented each time to stimulate discussion. The club will take place approximately once a month.

Schedule for spring 2012

Thursdays at 18-21, Kauppi-cabinet (FM2, 7th floor)

19.1. Kati Waltering (group Nykter)

23.2. Marcos Oliveira (Howylab)

22.3. Juha Saarikettu (group Silvennoinen)

26.4. Ines Anderl (group Hultmark)

24.5. Kati Juuti-Uusitalo (group Skottman)

14.6. Tiina Wahlfors (group Schleutker)

The primary target group of this club is the post-docs, but anybody working in BMT and interested in broadening their horizons beyond their every-day research group/environment is welcome to attend. Grad students should notice that no credits or certificates of attendance will be provided.

The topics for the scientific presentations should be general enough for the audience with mixed background. The presentations can be based on a recent high-impact article(s) (Cell, Nature, Science), introduce a broad-enough hot scientific topic, or present recent methodological developments with general interest. The presenters are encouraged to select a subject outside their current project. The emphasis of the presentation and discussion should be in raising questions and speculating on future directions, not so much in the answers provided so far.

For more information, contact leena.latonen(at)uta.fi.

A vegetarian dish will be reserved for a small number of attendants. Other special dietary requirements should be e-mailed more than one week in advance.
