Translational Prostate Cancer Research Program (TPCRP) was established in the campus of University of Tampere and Tampere University Hospital (TAUH) in the beginning of 1990's. Today, the core of TPCRP consists of 6 research groups:
Genetic Predisposition to Prostate Cancer (GPPC), led by Prof. Johanna Schleutker
Molecular Biology of Prostate Cancer group (MBPCG), led by Prof. Tapio Visakorpi
Department of Urology (DoU), led by Prof. Teuvo Tammela.
Prostate Cancer Biomarkers (PCB), led by Prof. Hans Lilja
PELICAN- personalized cancer medicine, led by Prof. G. Steven Bova
Computational Biology, led by Prof. Matti Nykter
Epidemiology, Tampere School of Public Health, led by Prof. Anssi Auvinen
In addition, several other researchers are involved in the program:
Dr. Paula Kujala (Department of Pathology, TAUH), Histopathology of Prostate Cancer
Prof. Jorma Isola (IBT), Molecular Markers and Virtual Microscopy of Prostate Cancer
Prof. Pirkko Kellokumpu-Lehtinen (Department of Oncology, TAUH), Chemo- and Radiation Therapy Trials of Prostate Cancer
Prof. Olli Yli-Harja, Computational Systems Biology, Tampere University of Technology
Goals of the TPCRP
The general goal of the TPCRP is to form close interaction between basic scientists and clinicians to provide an excellent basis for translational research and education. The unique collection of population-based clinical materials and models with complementary expertise provides exceptionally strong bases to study prostate cancer. A special emphasis will also be in training of basic scientists and clinicians to understand each other and to foster clinical researcher careers.
