In its meeting on Tuesday 30 January, the Board of the University of Tampere decided that the Board of Tampere University Foundation (TUF) will continue as the interim board of the new Tampere University. An integral part of the decision is that the members of the Boards of the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology will form an advisory board to assist the interim board.
The decision will enter into force as soon as the Board of TUF has approved it. The next meeting of the Board of TUF will be held on Friday 2 February.
In December, the Board of the TTY Foundation decided to appoint the current Board of TUF as the interim Board of the new Tampere University.
“I am pleased that we have found a common solution that will allow the university community to contribute to the preparations for the launch of the decision-making of the new University,” says Kari Neilimo, Chair of the Board of the University of Tampere.
“From the point of the view of the principles that concern the autonomy of universities, the advisory board model is an important part of the interim Board solution,” Neilimo continues.
The interim Board will appoint the first President of Tampere University and decide on the number of members in its multi-member governing body.
Both the Board of the University of Tampere and Board of TTY Foundation are to appoint four people to the advisory board. The Chairs of the Boards of the University of Tampere and TTY Foundation will chair the meetings in turn.
