Lexica ry is the student organisation for students of foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian and Scandinavian languages) at the University of Tampere. Lexica was founded in 1967. There are also separate clubs for each language Lexica represents: SAS (for students of English), Lederhosen (German), Ranskankerma (French), KOSMOS/KOCMOC (Russian) and Svenssonit (Scandinavian languages). The language clubs mainly organise events for students of each language, whereas Lexica organises all kinds of events for students of all languages.

Lexica is run by a 11-member board, which is elected in November or December each year. All members of Lexica are eligible to be members of the board. Lexica holds meetings about twice a month, please follow the mailing list or our notice board (Pinni B, 5th floor) to find out when and where the next meeting will take place. Everyone interested in Lexica is welcome to our meetings!

Some of Lexica's main tasks include protecting the students' rights and making student life in general more fun. We organise lots of different free-time activities: game nights, pub crawls, bowling, indoor climbing, parties, movie nights, etc. We also organise study-related events such as info sessions on minor subject studies, working life, and so on. If you have an idea of an event we should organise, don't hesitate to contact us!

How to become a member

Lexica's membership fee is 10 euros which grants you lifetime membership. You can pay it with cash during Lexica's coffee hours (about once a month, more info on the mailing list) - this way you'll get a sticker to indicate your membership right away. You can also pay the fee to Lexica's account (573226-286157), but do remember to bring the receipt when you come and pick up the membership sticker.

By showing the membership sticker you'll get a discount on many entrance fees of Lexica's events. Also, only members of Lexica can take part and vote in Lexica's official meetings (usually one in the spring term and another in the autumn term). In addition, only members are eligible to be members of the board.
