Patina - a brief introduction
Patina is the student body organization of history students in Tampere University. Most of the members study history as a major but there are also students who minor in history. Patina's main purpose is to look after students' interests in the Department of History and Philosophy. We also organize free time activities such as coffee breaks, cultural events, get-togethers, sauna parties, etc.
In addition Patina, together with the Department of History and Philosophy, organizes movie nights called "Klassikkokino". The idea is to watch films that has been chosen by one of the lecturers of our Department. They are usually important historical films and have English subtitles.
Patina is also famous for it's Tommy Tabermann parties. Tommy Tabermann is a Finnish poet specialized in erotic love poetry. At the party people perform Tabermann's poetry in a competition and the most passionate performance wins.
In the spring 2009 Patina held a Prohibition party (Kieltolakibileet) in the spirit of 1920's. It was a great success and will happen again. You can go see pictures of the parties held before from here.
Patina is also responsible of tutoring the exchange students studying history. If you have something to ask about tutoring or other things concerning international studying you can contact Marja Puranen (marja.puranen@uta.fi), who is in charge of Patina's international tutoring.
