The 2012–2014 election programme of the University of Tampere’s Vihreä lista
Tamy and the University of Tampere:
Eco-friendly, Happy, and Versatile
In Finland, student unionism at university level has a long tradition of being in the frontline of societal progress. Therefore, by affecting Tamy, students can have an effect on the whole society. The candidates of Vihreä lista aim to make sure that Tamy’s Council of Representatives protects students’ interests effectively and with great accountability. We also want to emphasize the importance of opening up Tamy’s decision-making process and other activities to students, thus bringing Tamy and its members closer together.
Students must have enough time to complete their studies thoroughly. In order to achieve good study results, students need competent teachers, high-quality and up-to-date study materials, and a motivational atmosphere for learning. Student health services, student counselling, and other student support services must also work immaculately. Furthermore, nutritious meals and versatile exercise opportunities are essential for students’ well-being. And most importantly: all of the above mentioned claims must apply to all students equally.
The great study opportunities that Tampere has to offer are one of the most significant factors that improve the attraction of the whole city. Therefore, it is legitimate to demand the City of Tampere to facilitate student life in Tampere. The city should, for example, channel more affordable flats to students. Moreover, student flats must be easily commuted to either via public transportation or pedestrian and bicycle routes.
