hopefulNESS 2017

The 13th Nordic Environmental Social Science Conference

6-8th June 2017, Tampere, Finland

List of working groups   | Conference programme Abstract booklet (updated 2.6.)

The recorded keynote lectures by J. Meadowcroft, E. Turnhout, M. Meyer and Y. Haila can be viewed here.

The general title set out for the conference is hopefulNESS. We aim to construct the conference program around policies, solutions, experiments and methodologies for a sustainable future.

The plenary program of the Conference will consist of five talks by invited international scholars. Aside the plenary program, working groups will convene around varied topics during the conference, such as urban studies, nature conservation, natural resource governance, circular economy, energy and climate, sustainable production and consumption and social studies of science. The program will also include more informal get-together events.

The NESS Conference is a cross-disciplinary environmental social science conference that has been organized bi-annually since 1993. The Conference brings together over 200 Nordic and European scientists addressing a broad range of environmental questions from perspectives including but not limited to sociology, political science, economics, and law. The Conference is organized in turns by Nordic universities affiliated with the network. The conference is organized by the Politics of Nature and the Environment research group, within the University of Tampere School of Management, together with the Finnish Society for Environmental Social Science.
