Master's Programme in Business Competence

Introduction

The Master's Degree Programme in Business Competence offers the student an opportunity to become a globally-oriented professional who can boost business in new and existing firms by designing viable strategies, creating and delivering new value propositions, implementing innovative business models and by managing successful market expansions. Due to the fact that in today’s service economy, the majority of new jobs are created by rapidly growing small firms, collaboration with the internationalizing smaller firms is an essential part of the programme.

The programme balances multidisciplinary theories with practical experiences and applied research in a multicultural setting. The compulsory courses aim at developing and applying knowledge for strategy design, service concepts, business development and internationalization. The optional studies provide flexibility and choice for the students to enhance their specialized knowledge for gaining a comprehensive perspective on organizational design, managing performance and leading change. The studies for personal development gives students an opportunity to improve their general skills and abilities necessary for getting, keeping, and doing well on a job.

The Programme is taught in English, and it includes lectures, seminars, exams, essays, learning diaries, and business projects. Because of the learning methods this programme cannot be completed as part-time studies; students are expected to commit themselves to fulltime studies.

The personal study plan (HOPS), which is compiled at the beginning of the studies, specifies individually the content of each student's degree, including compulsory and optional studies.

The number of credits and composition of the studies (in addition to modules defined as compulsory for all students) depends on the student's earlier studies and especially the student's own goals to his/her degree. Thus, the credit requirement of the degree may in the case of some students moderately exceed 120 ECTS credits because of additional studies required.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Business Competence also qualifies the graduates to continue their academic careers, e.g. on doctoral studies.
