Doctoral studies

HEG’s doctoral students are admitted via the admission procedure of the Faculty of Management’s postgraduate studies. Please find the details related to applying from Faculty of Management’s site about admissions to doctoral studies. The yearly deadlines for submitting applications are 30th April and 31st October. Please notice from the Faculty of Management's instruction that the very first step for a possible doctoral student candidate is to contact professor to discuss about the topic and research plan of doctoral thesis.

Admitted students will study at HEG as Faculty of Management's postgraduate students.

  2. Internationalization of higher education, e.g. transnational education, education export, international graduate employability, university and industry cooperation in an international context.
  3. Higher education governance and policy, e.g. relations between the state and universities, financing of higher education, quality assurance.
  4. University management, e.g.  academic profession, university mergers, organizational design, marketing of higher education.

Please visit also the pages of HEG's research projects and publications for a broader perspctive to our specialization areas.

Whom we take?

HEG's doctoral program enrolls MA graduates in the field of higher education policy and administration. We also welcome those from other disciplines such as public and business management, economics, sociology but keen to doing research on higher education policy and financing.

Funding possibilities?

The enrolment in the program does not promise any funding. However, the School of Mangement may offer a few doctoral student positions with salary upon very competitive application. In addition, there are a number of funding agencies may offer scholarship for doctoral candidates in Finnish universities. Candidates are also encouraged to apply possible scholarships from their own countries.
