Below you can find short descriptions of two international projects HEG is integrated to at the moment.

Building Institutional Capacity for Training Leadership and Management of Ugandan Universities (LMUU)

HEG is the coordinator of LMUU project that aims at building capacities of Ugandan universities for engagement in national development. This capacity building project has a three-phased approach. First, it focuses on developing institutional capacity of an institution responsible for management development in Uganda – the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) as well as enhancing the capacity of experts in curriculum development at the School of Education, Makerere University in theoretical and practical dynamics of university leadership and management. Second, the project partners jointly develop modules for a postgraduate diploma in university leadership and management at Uganda Management Institute to enable the Institute to professionalise serving and prospective university leaders and managers in Uganda and the East African region. Third, the modules of the diploma are pilot-tested by training academic leaders and administrative staff of Makerere University.

HEG’s partners in the project are

  • Higher Education Governance and Management (HEGOM) in the Network for Higher Education and Innovation Research (HEINE) at the University of Helsinki
  • Uganda Management Institute (UMI)
  • School of Education, Makerere University

The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland under the Higher Education Institutions Institutional Cooperation Instrument (HEI ICI) aimed at strengthening institutional capacities of higher education institutions in developing countries.
