Master's Programme in Russian and European Studies

Student experiences

"Studying and living in Finland over the past 18 months has been a real eye-opener for me. The CBU International Relations Masters has been engaging, flexible and with great lecturers. There is almost no limit to the additional modules (from any department) you can pick up and ‘add-on’ to the degree, and it’s amazing that they can offer a high number of contact hours with staff, without charging tuition fees!" Master's Degree Programme in Russian and European Studies

RES programme had its last intake in 2015. If you are interested in studying themes related to the global, international and regional dynamics in the European North, please, see our new Leadership for Change Master's Programme and its Politics in Wider Europe study track.

European-Russian relations in Northern Europe have an important role to play in shaping the world in the 21st century.

Master's Degree Programme in Russian and European Studies (RES) offers a unique interdisciplinary learning environment for students interested in Russian politics, society, culture and language as well as in global, international and regional political dynamics in the European North.

RES has been designed to respond to demands from the academia, policymakers, businesses and NGOs for graduates with an advanced knowledge in these areas.

The International Relations major is offered as a “Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University” (CBU) double degree programme with Petrozavodsk and St. Petersburg State Universities. A considerable part of IR studies is organized jointly by these institutions. Students enrolled as RES IR students at the University of Tampere can apply for a possibility to get a double degree from a Russian partner university.

RES programme had its last intake in 2015.
