Master's Programme in Russian and European Studies

Introduction

The Master's Programme in Russian and European Studies (RES) is a two-year Master's Degree Programme offered jointly by the staff of three disciplines: International Relations, Sociology and Russian Language and Culture.

The programme is available to qualified students, both Finnish and international, interested in acquiring and deepening knowledge of global, international and regional political dynamics in the North of Europe as well as of Russian politics, society, culture and language.

Our Master's programme offers systematic training in these questions regardless of your previous disciplinary background. Previous knowledge of Russian is not required from IR and Sociology students. Russian language courses enabling students to acquire a working knowledge of Russian are offered as part of the programme. Students with previous knowledge are offered courses that enable them to further their skills in the Russian language. Students of Russian Language and Culture are required to have a good command of the language, since a majority of the courses is offered in Russian.

As part of the programme, you will have a chance to gain in-depth knowledge of your chosen major subject (IR, sociology or Russian language and culture), of European-Russian interfaces as well as of Russian culture, society and politics. These subjects are designed to help you enter relevant professions in a world where questions of Russian-European relevance are of great significance or to equip you to pursue an academic career.

A page dedicated to studying in the programme contains plenty of relevant info for those interested joining the programme.
