The newspaper collection with the attached reading room is one of the Library's services. Newspapers can be read in the (newspaper) reading room located on the 0-floor in the University's main building, Kalevantie 4. The reading room can be reached through the main entrance hall of the main building. Newspapers are not loaned out.
The collection includes the most important Finnish and foreign dailies. More detailed information is available on the newspaper list.
To read a particular newspaper, one has to fill out an online form or a printed blue order form and leave it in the order box on the reading room desk.
In the reading room, there are also microfilms for reading. It is possible to make photocopies of both original and microfilmed papers. Microfilms can also be saved to a USB memory stick using the computer attached to the microfilm reader. The copying machines can be operated with library copying cards, which can be purchased in the Main Library or in Humanika; they are not available from the newspaper reading room.
The main dailies, Aamulehti and Helsingin Sanomat, are available on the second floor in the Kalevantie gable.
Humanika has not acquired user rights to newspaper online archives. The latest issues are available in full-text from the links below.
Issues of the latest month are kept in the journal reading area. Earlier issues (the latest volume) are stored in cabinets at the back of the room. The following titles are only kept for three months (available also in the newspaper reading room in the University’s main building):
Aamulehti
Dagens Nyheter
Helsingin Sanomat
Hufvudstadsbladet
