The newspaper collection with the attached reading room is one of the Library's services. Newspapers can be read in the (newspaper) reading room located on the 0-floor in the University's main building, Kalevantie 4. The reading room can be reached through the main entrance hall of the main building. Newspapers are not loaned out.
The collection includes the most important Finnish and foreign dailies. More detailed information is available on the newspaper list.
To read a particular newspaper, one has to fill out an online form or a printed blue order form and leave it in the order box on the reading room desk.
Requested newspapers are available in the reading room the following weekday. Papers can be read for several days; one only has to remember to tell the desired time period when reserving issues. Maximum time limit is one week. After use, papers should be placed on the return shelf. Papers are to be handled with care; they are not to be folded, cut and no markings are allowed. They must be returned in the same condition as they were received.
In the reading room, there are also microfilms for reading. It is possible to make photocopies of both original and microfilmed papers. Microfilms can also be saved to a USB memory stick using the computer attached to the microfilm reader. The copying machines can be operated with library copying cards, which can be purchased in Linna or Arvo; they are not available from the newspaper reading room.
