
The European Documentation Centers (EDC) are responsible for storing and keeping available publications published by the European Union. The deposit libraries are university libraries to support teaching and research, but, at the same time, they also serve local public administration, industry and commerce and other information seekers. The Tampere University Library is one of the European Documentation Centers in Finland.
The EU collection consists of publications issued by the European Commission, the European Parliament and other official bodies. The collection is located on the third floor of the Main Library.

EU resources are listed in the Tamcat-database. Their classification follows the Library classification guidelines. For the most part, materials can be borrowed, but some are available only for in-house use.
The EDC offers both Finnish and foreign databases. A list of Eu-databases.
The Information Service carries out information and literature searches for patrons according to their specifications. The Information Service also gives guidance on how to use the EU-information resources. Both Finnish and foreign online and CD-ROM databases are available.
A fee is charged for searches done by information specialists. Commissioning a search is done by filling out a printed form available at the EDC. It is reccomended to discuss the subject in more detail with the information specialist to guarantee the desired result.
