The Library Tip of the Month: Main Library Newspaper Collection
The newspaper collection with the attached reading room is one of the Library’s services. You can read newspapers in the newspaper reading room located on the 0-floor in the University’s main building, Kalevantie 4. The reading room can be reached through the main entrance hall of the main building.
Newspapers are not loaned out.
■ The collection includes the most important Finnish and foreign dailies. To read a particular newspaper You have to:
▪ fill out an online form on the Library’s website OR
▪ fill out the printed blue order form and leave it in the order box on the reading room desk OR
▪ phone the employee when he’s available at the collection
■ Opening hours

Requested newspapers are available in the reading room the following Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Papers can be read for several days; You have only to remember to tell the desired time period when reserving issues. Maximum time limit is one week.

The newspapers are delivered in folders, never as single numbers. One folder contains most commonly one month’s newspapers.

After use, place the papers on the return shelf. Papers are to be handled with care. They are not to be folded or cut and no markings are allowed. They must be returned in the same condition as they were received.

Microfilms for reading are also available in the reading room. It is possible to make photocopies of both original and microfilmed papers. Microfilms can also be saved in a USB memory stick using the computer attached to the microfilm reader. You can operate the copying machines with library copying cards, which can be purchased in the Main Library or in Humanika; they are not available in the newspaper reading room.
