The Acquisition Department in the Main Library is responsible for developing and managing the collections housed in the Main Library. Responsibilities also include the acquisition of joint electronic resources for Tampere University Library, e.g., FinELib resources. The main goal is to acquire both electronic and printed information resources that support the University's teaching, studying and research. The Main Library is also responsible for acquiring all required textbooks, excluding health sciences textbooks. Contact e-mail: phankinta@uta.fi.
The Department of Humanities and Education, Humanika is responsible for developing education collections and collections in central areas of humanities (history, literature and languages) to support the teaching and research programs of the University. Contact e-mail: humhankinta@uta.fi.
The Department of Health Sciences, Tertio acquires resources primarily for the needs of the School of Medicine, the School of Health Sciences and the Institute of Biomedical Technology. Contact e-mail: tertiohankinta@uta.fi.
Library patrons are encouraged to submit suggestions for new acquisitions. Suggestions can be submitted online or by e-mail to the addresses above. The person, who suggests a perticular book to be ordered, is also the first person to recieve the book to read - assuming of course, that the Library decides to acquire it. The acquisition process proceeds much faster, if the bibliographic information submitted on the form is as accurate and comprehensive as possible. Books on order show up in the Tamcat-database and it is possible to reserve them.
The Main Library is in charge of acquiring all required reading resources listed in the curricula or otherwise requested by the University schools with the exception of health sciences. 1-25 circulating copies are acquired and at least one copy of each title is available in the Textbook reading room. Only the teaching staff can submit suggestions for textbook acquisitions. In addition to printed textbooks, an electronic version is always acquired when available. Contact person: Aniita Ahlholm-Kannisto; e-mail: firstname.lastname@uta.fi
Textbooks for the School of Medicine, the School of Health Sciences and the Institute of Biomedical Technology are acquired by Tertio. One circulating copy is acquired for every five students, the maximum being 20 copies. Also one copy is acquired for the reading room. Books for secondary/recommended reading in curricula are acquired in 3-6 copies.
