The main goal is to acquire both electronic and printed information resources that support teaching, studying and research of the University of Tampere in cooperation with the University faculties. The Collection development policy (only in Finnish) is the framework for developing the collections of Library. The resources are more and more in electronic form.
Linna is responsible for acquiring resources for Faculty of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences.
Arvo acquires resources primarily for the needs of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences.

Library patrons can also submit suggestions for new acquisitions online or by e-mail to the addresses above. Books on order show up in Tamcat database and it is possible to reserve them at the Library's Customer Service.
Only the University's teaching staff can submit suggestions for textbook acquisitions.
The textbook acquisition is based on The principles of textbook acquisition (only in Finnish). 1-25 circulating copies are acquired and at least one copy of each title is available in the short loan collection. In addition to printed textbooks an electronic version is always acquired when available. Linna is in charge of acquiring all required reading resources listed in the curricula or otherwise requested by the University Faculties with the exception of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences.
