For online guidance, you need the University’s Office365 service, and a desktop or a laptop computer, guidance is not possible via mobile device. You also need a headset with microphone. We recommend that you download the Skype for business add on in advance.
After you have downloaded the add on, the program will ask for the university’s email address (”use your own organisation account”). Using it will direct you to Skype for Business, instead of regular Skype. The librarian will e-mail you a link to the meeting.
You and the librarian can share share your desktop (either the whole desktop or just a certain program e.g Word or your browser). The librarian can show you for example how to search in a certain database or you can show the librarian for example your problems with searching, reference management or formatting a Word file.
Audio connection and sharing a desktop work well in guidance meetings but adding a video connection can make the connection slow.
Online guidance is for everyone. If you live far away it can be a useful option. If there are problems with the connection, you can come to the library later for guidance. Try it and give us feedback so we can develop the service further.
