Seats and desks for studying - Read and use your own computer

All around Linna and Arvo libraries there are seats and desks for studying, also standing desks where you can work using your own device. You can read Library's e-materials on your own device by logging in to Eduroam wireless network.

Learning Centers - Work on a computer, print, copy and scan

Linna library's Learning Center

  • In the Learning Center on the 3rd floor there are 46 computers. Two of them are equipped with a scanner, the other one is by the journal collection.
  • Log in to the computers with the basic user accout of the University.
  • You can print from the computers using the network printers and your print quota.
  • The Learning Center is open during the Library's opening hours.

Arvo library's Learning Center

  • In the Learning Center on the 1st floor of the Library there are 20 computers, a scanner and a network printer/copy machine.
  • The space is available to students of the University 24/7 with the key card.
  • You need a a PIN code for the buiding's front door on weekdays from 21:00 to 5:30 and on weekends. You can get one from Arvo's IT Helpdesk (E106).

    Group work rooms - Work together

    You'll find both bookable and freely available group work rooms for working together in Linna and Arvo libraries.
    • Group work rooms are intended for the University of Tampere students.
    • Rooms are available during Library's opening hours (Except for Simo and Timo in Arvo library 24/7).
    • Rooms are booked using your Office 365 calendar. Booking instructions
    • You can check the availability of the rooms in the Office calendar and on the displays beside the groups work room's doors.
    When you book a group work room, remember:
    • Be on time, because the room becomes available to others 15 minutes after the booked time if you are not there.
    • If you can't come, cancel your booking in Office calendar.
    • One group can use the room max. 3 hours/day.

    Multipurpose spaces in Linna - Study or take a break

    Idea, 1st floor, Linna building's main lobby Green colour sign In this new open studying space you can work alone or in groups when the Library is open. Also some events will be arranged in Idea.

    Classrooms - Participate in courses, work on a computer

    • Classrooms are used for Library's courses and workshops
    • Library's classrooms are available outside the courses for the University students with the key card.
    • The weekly course schedule can be found on the screen beside the classroom door and in the Office calendar
    • Linna's classrooms are available when the Library is open, Arvo's classroom between 8.00 and 20.00.
    • The use of classroom computers requires a basic user account. The teacher's computer is only for staff use.

    Silent Reading Rooms - Read or use your own device

    Silent Reading Rooms are intended for reading and silent working.

    They are available 24/7 to the students of the University of Tampere with the key card.

    When you use the Silent Reading Room you'll consider the other readers when you

    • use your mobile phone only outside the Reading Room. Switch your phone to silent mode when you enter.
    • listen with headphones on low volume
    • if you have to discuss with other people, please go outside the room.

    • On the 2nd floor of Linna building, entrance is in the main lobby of Linna building (Kalevantie side).
    • When the Library is closed, the University students can enter the staircase through the side door situated opposite the Finnish Student Health Service building using their key card.
    • Laptops can be used in the larger area of the Reading Room. The glass-walled area is a space where devices are not used.
    • There is a break room where you can take a break and have a snack.
    • There is camera surveillance and access control in the Reading Room.

    • On the 1st floor of the Library.
    • When the Library is closed, entrance is through Arvo building's main entrance with your key card.
    • On weekdays between 9 pm and 5:30 am and weekends also a PIN code is needed to the front door. Please ask the code at IT Helpdesk (Arvo E106).

    Thesis Lockers

    University of Tampere students writing their thesis can borrow a locker for 90 days at Linna library for their material. Read more about Thesis Lockers.

    Color signs guide the use of different working spaces

    Green colour sign On the green premises you can talk and use mobile devices. However, use the phone booths or go outside of the Library for phone calls.
    Yellow colour sign On the yellow premises you can speak in a low voice if necessary. You can do group work in Pentinkulma and Elina, if you can't find any other space, but remember to take the other students around into consideration.
    Red colour sign The red sign means silent working space, please mute your devices. You can use your laptop, except for the separate space in Linna library's Silent Reading Room.
