The meeting (in English) is organised by the International School of Social Sciences and the Information Society Insititute on Mon 15th Dec 10.15 to 11.00 am at University Main Building, auditory A3. • Information Society Institute in co-operation with the Finnish Institute in Japan and Waseda University organise Finnish-Japanese Information Society Forum in Tokyo 6th to 7th Oct.

• Professor James Katz from Rutgers University to give a speech on the topic A World of Ghosts? Mobile Communication in Public Places at National Consumer Research Center, Helsinki, 5th August.
• IRFD World Forum on Information Society in Geneva 8th to 12th December
• Artist Osmo Rauhala gives a lecture on the topic Art and Science in the Information Society on Monday 7 April in Attila room B 275. The lecture is provided as a part of teaching provided in the English-language Masters Programme on Information Society by International School of Social Sciences and is open for everyone.
• Global Challenges of eDevelopment research project organises the seminar Global eDevelopment: Prospects of Sustainability. The seminar is held 14 April at Tampere Hall.
• eGlobal Conference at Tampere Hall 22nd to 24th March. 
• Department of Education organises a series of lectures under the title Information Society as a Challenge for Education. The first lecture is held Feb 17.
• Information Society Insitute received ten applications for flagship projects. The decision on the projects accepted is due in March.
• International School of Social Sciences offers Master's Programme on Information Society 2. Deadline for applications is 3 March.

• A new information society initiative called eTampere launched for the years 2001-2005
• A new analysis about the Finnish information society written by Manuel Castells and Pekka Himanen was published as a Finnish-language version in Helsinki 26th September
• The Mindtrek media week took place 5.-11. November in Tampere
