The Department of History and Philosophy at the University of Tampere comprises of two disciplines: history and philosophy. This unique and innovative department was created when the Philosophy subject, earlier part of the the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Philosophy, joined in the Department of History in the Faculty of Humanities in January 2008.

History and Philosophy arrange teaching and research in their own fields; however, we also organise shared activies to give students deeper understanding of both fields. Furthermore, joint research opportunities are arising from the cooperation within the disciplines.
