As of the beginning of 2011 the University of Tampere has conducted a thorough overhaul of its organization. The former faculties and departments have been rearranged into nine schools. The functions of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics belong now to the School of Information Sciences. The contents of the department's web pages will be gradually transferred to the website of the School of Information Sciences.

The Department

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Tampere comprises two independent disciplines: mathematics and statistics. Each of these disciplines is responsible for teaching and research in its own field. The Department is located in the Faculty of Information Sciences, which is one of the six faculties of the University.

Tampere Mathematics Center

Department of Mathematics at Tampere University of Technology and Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Tampere jointly founded a cooperation body of mathematics: the Tampere Mathematics Center. Its purpose is to enhance internationally high-grade research and researcher education in mathematics, as well as to develop both major and minor level undergraduate education, teacher education and basic education of mathematics.
