Politu |
Politu is the National Graduate School of Political Studies. The operation of Politu commenced in January 2007. The presiding director of Politu is professor Tuomas Forsberg from the University of Tampere. In charge of administration is research coordinator Jarmo Rinne who is also the contact person. It is the objective of Politu to produce such experts in the field that are able to tackle demanding work projects and assignments, develop networking and interaction within the disciplinary community, and produce original scientific research. The guiding principle of Politu is thinking, reading and analysing phenomena politically.
The school has five
themed areas: 1. Political Thought and Concepts,
2. Governance and Political Institutions, 3. Political Participation,
4. World Politics and 5. Conflict Resolution. These core themes
form part of specialist areas of Finnish political studies and the most
important research projects. Postgraduate education is conducted by way of
internationally networked research projects, or in cooperation with the
projects. This is taken as the best procedure to develop the practice of
post-graduate study and to promote high-quality political studies and
post-graduate degrees.
The networks of
research projects help provide possibilities for taking part in the activities
of high-level international conferences, and in organising international
doctoral courses and the exchange of researchers/teachers. Research projects
also support the international networking of young researchers and dissertation
supervision through international relationships. The main responsibility for the doctoral students’ education is taken by
the professors who serve as the leaders in the themed areas of the graduate
school.
Politu forms part of
the background of the strengthened international profile of Finnish political
studies. The discipline has also succeeded in realising national calls for a
Centre of Excellence and Academy Professorship. From an international point of
view the quality and appreciation of Finnish political studies has risen. This
is especially salient in the diversification of international cooperation
networks and an increase in international publications. The fields of activity,
doctoral courses and researchers at Politu are international. The branch of science
reaches from politology to related disciplines. Current News |
