The Department has two major subjects: Speech Communication and Voice Research and Logopedics. Speech Communication and Voice Research emphasises two areas: 1) speech communication and 2) speech technique and vocology.
The department is involved in the Master's Program of Political Communication. The national Doctoral School of Communication Studies is coordinated in the department.
NEWS:
The department has received a new grant from The Academy of Finland (decision number 135012, period for funding 1.1.2010-31.12.2013) for a project Computerized inversion for spoken language – An interdisciplinary consortium on inverse problems in the production and perception of speech. Responsible leader is Prof. Samuli Siltanen, University of Helsinki, and subproject leaders are Professors Paavo Alku and Risto Ilmoniemi, Aalto University ( Helsinki University of Technology), and Prof. Anne-Maria Laukkanen, University of Tampere.
