University of Tampere
The Research Centre engages in contract research and organises training and development projects related to journalism, publicity and new media.
The Tampere Research Centre for Journalism, Media and Communication encourages public debate on journalism by organising seminars and by publishing a Yearbook of Journalism Critique (in Finnish). The Centre draws on strong domestic and international academic expertise and know how combined with a practically-oriented approach to research problems.
Founded in 1996, the Research Centre has rapidly gained a prominent place in the field, and a growing number of different types of projects are currently under way at the Centre. The main concern in these projects is with the relationship between newspapers and their readers, the challenges presented by new technology to journalism and the changing public sphere.
The Centre's partners include major media companies in Finland. Projects have also been sponsored by Helsingin Sanomat Foundation and other foundations, European Union, the National Technology Agency of Finland (TEKES), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, etc. The Centre is interested in working more closely with international partners and in establishing contacts with organisations in the field of journalism research.
