Health Communication in Social Media
The objective of the study is to find out how the social media is used by the people seeking and producing information, and how getting support and help on (ill)health issues and what kind of healths and illnesses are constructed in the social media.

CAPCULT, Capitalizing culture - Transnational Re-articulations of Economy and Culture
The project is tracing the mechanisms of cultural capitalization and re-articulations of economy and culture through several cases.

Ubiquitous Computing in News Media (Ubi)

Experiencing Political Publicity

New Reading Communities, New Modes of Reading

The project investigates how contemporary forms of reading, reception of texts and readerly production transform into new reading. Fashion Blogs as Places of Marketing and Status Building

Immigration-related Political Debate in 2011 Parliamentary Elections

Girls' Magazines as Spaces of Meeting and Interaction

This study examines magazines aimed at teenage girls and their multimedial reader relationship as a part of the magazine publishing field. Mapping and Understanding Sustainable Business Models for Journalism
The aim of SuBmoJour is to create an emerging data archive of journalistic business models which could track the actually existing, evolutionary change of journalistic business solutions and which could serve as a platform for circulation and enrichment of journalistic practices across borders and cultures globally.

Next Media Transforming the media experience
The Next Media research programme (2010-2013) aims at innovations which by means of new business models, concepts and technology, meet people's insatiable need for engaging and activating media experiences.

MediaAct
MediaAcT is a comparative research project on media accountability systems in EU member states as indicators for media pluralism in Europe.

Election funding crisis: media and politics at a crossroads?
The project aims to elucidate the impact of the spring 2008 election funding crisis to journalism and politics and their interrelationship. The study consists of interviews with the parties involved, analysis of media data and assessment of public views. The project is co-conducted with the Communication Research Centre (CRC) at the University of Helsinki. 

VICOMM Visual commons -Social dialog through visual knowledgedissemination (2009-2011)
This project has been approved to the MOTIVE -program of
Academy of Finland. The research shall be conducted as a multidisciplinary project by a consortium, composed of the following institutions: University of Tampere (UTA, coordinator), Helsinki University of Techonlogy (TKK) and University of Art and Design Helsinki (TaiK). The project contributes empirical knowledge about the evolving modes of visual communication, the changing work processes in media production and its interaction with citizen communities, the increasing role of visual knowledge in journalism and how the media production models influence the outcome.

Annual Monitoring of News Media (2006 - 2012) The project has developed into an observation system with which to annually survey news media output and indicate ongoing trends in the Finnish news media. The objects of the analysis will include subject matter of the main news, the reference groups of the people most featured, age and gender, the geographical perspective of items and the share of material on violence and sexuality. The news media selected for monitoring will include morning newspapers, evening papers, TV news stations, radio news stations and Internet pages of the news media. Towards Engaging Journalism The three-year project (2009-2011) aims to analyze the relevance of journalism from the perspective of social networks. How does journalism engage its readers and how does journalism maintain public’s sense of connection to the public sphere. The empirical audience research focuses on 78 persons representing nine existing social networks from four different regions in Finland.
