About the conferenceThe Nordic Conference for Media and Communication research has allready been arranged for 34 years. The first conference was held in Voksenås, Norway in 1973. The number of delegates has grown steadily in this conference, which is arranged every second year. In the first conference, the researchers focusing on social sciences were in a strong position. Nowadays there is no such imbalance between researchers focused on social sciences and humanities. In a period of thirty years, communication research has separated into its own field of study. In the beginning of the 1970's the teaching of academic communication was rare, but today communication studies are a part of almost every universities' educational program. In the 20th anniversary of the conference, which was held in Trondheim in 1993, there was a generation of researchers that has emerged inside the field of communication. This generation, more than anyone before describes itself as communication researchers. Since the 20th anniversary this group of communication researchers has grown. From the beginning, the mid 1990's researchers from Baltic countries have taken part in the conference. Quite often, a course for researchers has been arranged in connection with the conference. The participants for this course have been mainly from Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. The conference structure follows an established practice: The questions rising from the conference theme are handled in one or plenty of plenum-presentations. However, the greatest part of the conference work is done in workshops where the conference presentations of the delegates are gone through. Additional program and excursions arranged during the conference are an ideal chance to continue communicating with each other.
