Joint Doctoral Courses at the University of Tampere University of Tampere

The aim of the joint doctoral courses at the University of Tampere is to provide flexible supply of courses from which the students can select those that fit into their curriculum. The supply of courses is designed to take into account the different backgrounds and various needs of PhD students, and aims especially at improving the teaching given to develop research skills and the skills students need in working life. Theory of science, and qualitative and quantitative methods have a central position in the teaching. Courses and other functions are open to PhD students from all the Faculties at the University.

The coordination and organization of the joint doctoral studies is one of the duties of the Institute for Social Research (ISR), as listed in the University regulations. The coordination is directed by a coordination group, in which all the Faculties have representation. The group is chaired by the director of the Institute for Social Research, professor Risto Heiskala.
