TransLaw 2016 third circular

Dear colleagues,

the Translation and Interpreting as a Means of Guaranteeing Equality under Law (TransLaw 2016)

conference is fast approaching. We are happy to let you know that registration is now open (https://www.lyyti.fi/reg/TransLaw2016). Everyone planning to attend the conference should register by 4 April. This includes the plenary speakers, all other speakers (including co-authors of a paper who intend to attend the conference) and anyone planning to attend without a presentation. The conference fee will be 135 euros and includes coffee, a guided city tour and conference dinner on Monday, as well as the usual conference materials. Payment options for international participants are credit card and Paypal. Payments will be made while filling in the electronic registration form. Accompanying persons can attend the guided city tour and conference dinner: payment details will be presented in the registration form.

We will provide all attendees with a certificate of attendance at request during the conference. In case a certificate of acceptance is needed prior to the conference, please contact us via the conference email address (mailto:translaw2016@uta.fi) with all necessary details.

You can now find the abstracts (http://www.uta.fi/ltl/translaw2016/abs.html) and a preliminary programme (http://www.uta.fi/ltl/translaw2016/programme.html) on our website. If you have any queries or requests, please contact us via the conference email address (translaw2016@uta.fi).

We are asking all participants to make their own hotel reservations. Pre-reservations have been made at Solo Sokos Torni Hotel Tampere, Original Sokos Hotel Villa and Lapland Hotel Tampere. More affordable options are Dream Hotel & Dream Hostel and Omena Hotel. All are within a 5-15 minute walking range from the university. Booking information and links to further hotel information are available on the conference website (http://www.uta.fi/ltl/translaw2016/accommodation.html).

Most travellers will find it convenient to fly to Helsinki International Airport and continue from there by either a domestic flight to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport, by train to Tampere railway station or by bus to Tampere bus station. Tampere railway station and bus station are within walking distance of the hotels listed and the university. More travel information will be made available on the conference website (http://www.uta.fi/ltl/translaw2016/travel.html).

Given that the conference starts in the morning of Monday 2 May, it is advisable to arrive on Sunday. Please note that Sunday 1 May is a public holiday, and many timetables and opening times are affected by that. Saturday 30 April is a carnival-like festivity for students and others wishing to celebrate approaching spring. For more on these traditions, see e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night#Finland or http://www2.hs.fi/english/archive/thisweek/18042000.html.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Tampere!
